Authorities have responded to media reports that claimed Armenian brandy exporters have been barred by Armenian customs authorities from crossing the Armenian-Georgian border.
In a statement to Armenpress, State Revenue Committee spokesperson Lusine Mkrtchyan said the action is temporary given the recent congestions in the Georgian border crossing point and it will be lifted as soon as the clearance issue is resolved.
The crossing of Armenian cargo vehicles of the Armenian-Georgian border has been deemed inexpedient at this time by the Armenian customs service because of the congestions in the Georgian crossing points.
“The action, initiated for the benefit of the businesses, is temporary, until the issue of clearance in the Georgian side is resolved. The State Revenue Committee, in this situation is acting exclusively pursuant to the interests of cargo transporters who want to cross the border and assures that in case of swift resolution of the congestions in the Georgian section of the border the duly clearance of Armenian vehicles from the checkpoint will be organized,” she said.
